Also Honoring a Legacy of Dedication

Before we even began observing Day of Giving, March 15th had already taken on a special significance. In 2017, we declared it Janet Lee Day to honor a wonderful woman who retired after an extraordinary career that spanned almost 46 years.

When we reflect on how much BCI evolved during her time with us, it’s truly astonishing. Janet joined BCI in 1971 at the age of 21, long before we expanded into contract packaging, developed our employment continuum, or moved into our current St. Peters facility. She was the first long-time team member to retire from BCI, and her send-off was nothing short of legendary.

Janet’s career embodies the heart of our mission—offering people with disabilities meaningful employment opportunities, the freedom to choose their path, and the ability to work for as long as they wish in a job that brings them joy and purpose.

It’s because of support from donors and community partners that we’ve been able to expand our programming, create new job opportunities, and pave the way for future generations of people like Janet.
