Also Honoring a Legacy of Dedication
Even before we began observing Day of Giving, March 15 had already taken on a special significance. In 2017, we declared it Janet Lee Day to honor a remarkable woman who retired after an extraordinary career spanning nearly 46 years.
When we reflect on how much BCI evolved during her time with us, it’s truly remarkable. Janet joined BCI in 1971 at the age of 21, long before we expanded into contract packaging, developed our employment continuum, or moved into our current St. Peters facility. She was the first long-tenured team member to retire from BCI, and her send-off was nothing short of legendary!
Janet’s career embodied the heart of our mission—providing people with disabilities meaningful employment, the freedom to choose their path, and the opportunity to work in roles that bring purpose and fulfillment.
We were saddened that Janet passed away on April 8, 2026. Her impact, however, lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the organization she helped shape.
Because of the support of donors and community partners, we’ve been able to grow our programs, create new opportunities, and pave the way for future generations of individuals like Janet.
On March 15, as we celebrate our Day of Giving, we also honor Janet’s legacy—and the many lives enriched through our services. Your support ensures we can continue to evolve, innovate, and create opportunities for people to thrive.
